Katie: "very well. the fireweed was a stroke of genius!" i exclaimed. "usually, hay and oats can't tempt him because of his senior mouth. he usually eats bran mash. but fireweed is still soft enough for him to eat. oh, and you handled the canter very well. "

Mary Anne: "Thanks!" I grinned. "So, the hour is not nearly up yet. Can I ride an, um, more...spirited horse?"

Mary Anne: "All right! that sounds great!!!" I cheered. I dashed off to the stable to clip a longe line onto Butterfly's halter and start working.

Katie: "great!" i said happily. it seemed to me that Mary Ann deserved a good horse like Butterfly. we quickly clipped the longe to her periwinkle halter, and i instructed Mary Ann to hold it. i led Butterfly around by her halter at first, but then let Mary Ann take over. Butterfly behaved perfectly, and we even made it to a trot. "thank you for coming, Mary Ann!" i exclaimed, as the girl brushed Littke Miss Butterfly down. "great job. see you later!"

Mary Anne: Little Miss Butterfly was undoubtedly as nice as she looked. After I was done grooming her, I found Katie again. "Katie, thanks so much for the lesson- and for letting me help with Butterfly! It was great!" I exclaimed. "Could I take out a horse and ride to the lake? I'll try to find some other people, like Yuliya, Shiloh, or Sidney to come with me!"
