Question, Spot: Can you tell us a little bit about the less common events? Mary Anne is an ametuer, and doesn't want to sign up for something she doesn't know about...

ahhh, okay! Dressage: described as "a path and destination of competitive horse training, with competitions held at all levels from amateur to the Olympics. Its fundamental purpose is to develop, through standardized progressive training methods, a horse's natural athletic ability and willingness to perform, thereby maximizing its potential as a riding horse." in other words, you train your horse and yourself to do very cool, graceful moves in an intricate sequence. Cross-country: described as jumping a series of fences and obstacles, "These fences consist of very solidly built natural objects (telephone poles, stone walls, etc.) as well as various obstacles such as ponds and streams, ditches, drops and banks, and combinations involving several jumping efforts - based on objects that would commonly occur in the countryside. This phase is timed, with the rider required to cross the finish line within a certain time frame (optimum time)." We all know about horse racing, i hope. the horses run out of a gate, speed around the track, and whoever gets to the finish line first, wins. there are a number of different lengths, measured in furlongs. we'll do five furlongs, 1.5 miles, as it the most common. Steeplechase: "steeplechase originated in Ireland in the 18th century as an analogue to cross-country horse races which went from church steeple to church steeple, hence "steeplechase". they consist of a number of horses running along a course and jumping over a number of combination jumps." in other words, it's like a horse race with jumps! think national velvet. Reigning is basically controlling your horse, directing it to do intricate sliding stops, routines, etc., in western attire and movements. like extreme dressage. watch this for an idea of it, and make sure to watch at least a minute into it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm4Xzo80LAMMost of us get barrel racing. the horses and riders charge around three barrells at a full gallop, and try to beat each other timewise. Lyrical dressage, or freestyle dressage, is simply dressage to music. per example: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKQgTiqhPbwAs for Hunting, it consists of a great body of horses and hounds charging across the landscape, jumping over things, and the girls wearing long, pretty dresses, as featured in "Scarlet," "Black Beauty," and "Hobby Horse Hill." i only added it to have a nice, round, list; we don't have to do it competitiively. Endurance: like a trail ride race, but very long and challenging. horse and rider have to ride long distances, jump obstables, scale rock walls etc.

ummm, the endurance part is all fine and dandy, but, as far as i know, we'll be pitting the guys we play (like owen, for me) against the girls we play.... like arin for me. unless you don't want yuliya and cyrus to fall inluv with each other, which is obviously the goal of this measure!

Oh, really? That's the point? I wasn't aware of that...I didn't really plan for them to love each other. I don't think Yuliya would like him.

Can Whitely do Dressage? but nobody would fall in love with HER... And can Mary Anne do Lyrical dressage (if separating characters agrees with everyone.) And put Theo wherever you want- like maybe endurance, hunting, cross-country, or steeplechase.
