Caden:
when Mike asked me if i needed a leg up i looked up at how tall Song was. she was really tall, really good for a racer. "yea," i said and Mike took my leg and i hopped up onto the mare's back. "Katie, actually how did Heart Song get out of the racing business?" i asked. the mare fidgeted and shifted from foot to foot.

Mike: I gave Caden a boost to Heart Songs back and stepped back to watch.

Katie: i returned Mike's wink as he mentioned Sydney- i had a feeling that the two would become significant others very soon. then, i stepped back to let Caden swing onto Song's narrow back. "I'm pretty sure she just got too old- which, of course, means just over three or four in the world of racing." i replied. "She had a pretty successful career, with some seconds, thirds, and a few wins in the local handicaps."

Mike: "I could be wrong, but I remember a filly running locally that was injured and had to retire from track. I can't remember if her name was Heart Song, better ask Sydney on that one. Speaking of Sydney, do you know where we might find her Katie?"

Katie: "I'm pretty sure she's on a twilight ride with the other girls." i said, smiling mischeviously. "Down by the waterfall, perhaps." how romanitic would it be if mike asked sydney to go to the ball with him... at the beautiful hooligan falls?!

Mike: "What a pitty I haven't a horse to ride..." I said dramatically. "Do you suppose I could borrow a horse Katie?"

Caden:
"Mike you can borrow one of Miley's horses, if you want. i actually think my brother is outside too." i said. "where is Holligan Trail actually, i wont be able to find it, so Mike i might need your help to find it." i said.

Mike: "I appreciate the offer Caden, but I was hoping to borrow Legendary Patriot perhaps. But I'd be more than happy to lead you to hooligan falls, though it isn't too hard to find."

Caden:
"thanks Dude." i said to Mike. i looked around for Legendary Patriot. i saw the horse and i moved Heart Song into a jog toward the stall. i tried to reach down to grab the lead rope but Heart Song was too tall.

Katie: "You can take Pat, or any other horse." i said, smiling at the boys. "Except for Twisty Whiskey, of course. then, we'd have to call the ambulence before you even got on. Tack is in that little room there-" i motioned to the small room full of saddles- "And there's a sign pointing you to the trail. i'd best stay here and field calls from judges and Milton, but i'm sure you'll have a splendid time."

Sydney: "I'm sure you will, thanks Katey!" I said over my shoulder jogging off to the tack room. I found Pat's tack, went to his stall gave him a quick grooming and had him tacked and ready in no time. I climbed into the saddle, "Ready to go Caden?" I asked.

Caden:
"yea." i said nodding my head. my long hair flipped up and down. i pulled on my grey stetson and urged Heart Song into a jog out of the barn.

Katie: "have fun!" i waved, and then scampered back into the office. i had three messages blinking on the machine- one from Peteria A. Norton, a champion dressage rider from way back when, who wanted to judge, and two from Milton Berryhill, telling me about the new steeplechase course he was building adjacent to the racetrack.

Mike: With a nod, I tapped Pat with my heals and we set off down the trail. Pat was a sturdy school horse who listened well. Compared to the ready to blow you away with my speed thoroughbreds I was used to riding, this was like being on a Merry-Go-Round. "So Caden, what do you think of Heart Song so far?"

Caden:
"i think she is a magnficent, she is beautiful and very graceful." i said as the mare showed off her grace in a trot into a canter. she tucked in her head and lifted her tail. i looked up at the sky where stars shimmered in the blackness.
