Justin works with his two barrel racers Quest and Lace. *psst* Justin is going to give Lace to Miley *shhh*
Justin:
Lace was haltered and ha a lead rope on. i had tacked up Quest and tied Lace to the saddle horn. i was leading my two barrel racers down to the Training Arena to work them. no one was out of the barn to day cus it was so hot out. even though it was noon. when i put the two horses in the arean i let them loose and closed the gate. i had signed up for cross country in the competion and i was planning on using Quest for it. speaking of who Quest and his daughter came trotting to me. they knew the drill. i untied Lace and unclipped her lead rope. i throw it over the arena's fence and mounted up on Quest. while Lace ran circles around the arena i wove Quest through the barrels. i trained my horses different than anyone else. foals people usually clip them to lead ropes and pull them through obstacles. i let mine learn first hand as they watch their parents do it. it works after about 10 minutes of watching Lace begins to weave through the barrels herself.
"as soon as Lace starts weaving, we are going to practice some jumps boy, for the Cross Country Competion," i said to Quest.

Milton Berryhill: although it was hot outside, i needed a break from ball preparations. my usual suit and tie simply wouldn't do, so i changed into some riding clothes. even if i'm the manager of the best stable in nevada, i hardly have time to ride anymore. i heard hoofbeats in the training area, and decided to go see who it was. a new student was riding one horse around the barrels, and another horse was freely galloping around. i leaned against the railing until he caught sight of me. "hello. hot weather we've been having." i said conversationally.

Justin:
i was startled by a man. "ohh, yea. hi im new to Berryhill. im Justin Buck, this is Executive Quest and Leather n' Lace. Quest's filly." i said. "im training Lace and giving her to my friend Miley Brawling from another stable," i said. afraid to give the name of the barn away. i dismounted Quest and let his reins slip out of my hands so he could go check on his daughter. i walked over to the man on the fence, "and you are?"

Milton: i was a bit taken aback. "I am Milton Archibald Berryhill, of course. owner of Berryhill stables. it's nice to meet you, Master Buck. your horses look very talented." i decided not to ask where his friend rose- i was afraid of the answer.

Milton (Archiblad Bartholomew Medici Berryhill IV.): i shook Justin's hand. at least he showed respect, now that he knew who i was. "normally, i would decline, since one simply can't ride in a suit, but i have no excuse today. Quest looks like an exceptional horse, besides." Justin dismounted, and i swung into the saddle. it had been forever since i had ridden western- my racehorses and their tiny racing or english saddles have been my primary focus for the past half-decade. but i had forgotten how comfortable it was, and how fast and steep you could go in it.
i gave Executive Quest a tap, and then another, first trotting around the barrels once to give myself a feel for the saddle. once i was ready, i gave him and hearty kick and his head. i only had to give the talented hore a few signals with the split reins in order for him to race through the three barrels. not quite a record time, but i wasn't the worst racer in the world, at least. i couldn't help but smile. "thank you very much, master buck." i said, dismounting lithely and handing him back the reins. "you'll make Berryhill proud at the competition."

Justin:
Mr. Berryhill was pretty good at barrel racing. "your welcome Mr. Berryhill. i have a question, for the competion i signed up for Cross Country and im not sure if i should use Quest or my other horse Eagle Spirit. who do you think i should use?"

Milton: "i take it that Quest is a quarterhorse, no? what breed is Eagle Spirit? and is he trained in any jumping discipline?" i asked, interested in finally doing something that didn't have to do with trifectas or bloodline scoring. as a matter of fact, i hadn't been spending enough time with the horses lately... i hadn't ridden for fun for over a year, since Down of a Thistle, my favorite mount, died. he had been twenty-two years old, and susceptible to the bone disease that eventually lead to his death. Thistle had been my best friend; i had bought him as a high school student, and he had been a five-year-old recently retired from the track with an impressive record. he had been unpredictable and wild, but came to trust me with time. his ancestory went back to Seabiscuit, and hence, distantly back to Man O' War. i missed the freedom that came with being able to ride the trails and wilderness. something inside me clicked; i decided that i needed a horse in time for the competition.
"Oh, and, Master buck, as you consider, i have a favor to ask of you." i said, pondering all aspects of equines. breed? gender? color? age? disposition? what sort of horse would i need...?

Justin:
"yes Quest is a quarter horse. Eagle Spirit is a quarter horse, mustang i grew up with him and he can do almost everything except run the race track." i said, "oh and you can ask me for anything Mr. Berryhill, anyway, you do let me ride and keep my horses here."

Milton: "very good. i would suggest setting up some jumps, and taking both horses on time trials over them. and, for my request; you have a lot of horses, it seems. i need to find a new one, not as an enterprise or stock venture, but as a horse for me. would you mind helping me choose?"

Justin:
"ok Mr. Berryhill, i'll try that," i said to his request about choosing a horse for the competion. as he asked for my help to find a horse for him i knew i couldnt refuse, "Mr. Berryhill, i would love to help you find a horse for yourself. what kind are you looking for? would you like to go out on a trail ride and try out one of mine if you wish," i said to Mr. Berryhill already starting for the gate of the arena.

Milton: "i had something a little bit different in mind. have you ever shopped for horses in the classified section?" i asked. i, personally, had never done so. breeders and trainers from states away actually came to me with their best horses, or i went to sales in aqueduct or saratoga. this would be a myraid experience.

Justin:
"no Sir, there is a restricted section? i was wondering where all the good horses were," i said with a smirk smile on my face.

Milton: "the classifieds in the paper, of course." i said, pulling a copy of the Nevada Star out of my jacket. "you can buy anything from a..." i consulted the newsprint, "...a rototiller to a baby python to greenbroke mustang, Grulla, age four."

Justin:
i smirked. "ahh you want a mustang," i said turning to look at his face. "and you want me to... what?"
