Mary Anne: I blushed slightly, then told Sydney the truth. "I actually don't know. I haven't officially been asked yet, but Theo said something to the tune of 'meet me at the ball' so I'm kind of wondering... maybe I should be totally avant-garde and do something like tape a piece of paper- laminated, of course- to the inside of Inky's hoof that says 'Will you go to the ball with me? ' and then, he'll find it when he picks her hooves. But, that might be too wierd! And speaking of guy advice, what did you want to ask?"

Sydney: "Well I'm afraid I'm in the same predicament that you are in. I'd like to be asked to the ball by Michael Vaughn but I doubt that will happen. The note on the hoof idea is cute, you'd have to sign it with your name of course or he'll think Inky learned to spell!" I replied with a chuckle.

Mary Anne: "Or he'll just think that she picked it up somewhere on the trail and think nothing of it!" I said. "We could make a scavenger-hunt type thing- like we put clues by their saddles, and then they have to follow the clues to, say, here-" I gestured towards the cascading waterfall- "Where either ourselves or notes from us asking them to the ball would await. But that might be too 'homecoming'."

Sydney: "Why do boys make things so complicated?" Sam snorted at my question and I chuckled, "Well, not all boys. If boys were horses, we could simply bring carrots!"

Mary Anne: "Good point! We could carve it into a Hershey's bar- maybe then they'd listen!" I said. Syd's thoughts reminded me of the rather wilty carrot slice in my pocket, and after a few awkward moments of standing up in my saddle and twisting around in order to reach it, I leaned far forward and fer Piper the carrot. "If only it were that simple..."

Sydney: "It's too bad we're going to whoop them in the competition. Boys HATE to be beaten by girls!"

Mary Anne: I smiled cynically, though I am NOT a cynical person. "You'd think that it would make them admire us even more!" I sunk deep into thought about Theo. stop it, Mary Anne, STOP IT!!! You are not boy crazy or anything near it! i proclaimed, giving myself a mental slap across the face in order to stop this swooning-over-Theo business.

Sydney: I thought ahead for a moment about the race, what will I wear? "Hey, do you know if by chance Sterling Stables has any jockey silks?" OOC: I designed some for SS before that have a Celtic Rose Knot on them, so pretty!

Arin: Alex and i cantered through the deepening twilight to where Sydney and mary Anne were talking by the waterfall. it was so peaceful out here in the woods at night- an owl hooted high above us, a cool breeze sang through the pines, and you could almost tangibly feel the dew gathering. "Mind if we join you?" i asked, pulling With Flying Colors to a stop next to Samurai.

MAry Anne: "If I'm not mistaken, I saw some green silks in the tack room once- but I'm not certain. If those were indeed racing silks, they were lovely- emerald green! Do you know anything about them, Arin?" i asked.

Sydney: "I was just asking because if not, I have a few friends in the jockey silks business that owe me a favor."

Arin: i nodded slowly. "I'm pretty sure those were they- Katie recently asked me for my silk size, so i'm presuming that they are!" i was quite pleased- emerald green was one of my favorite colors. "And Berryhill's will obviously be maroon. i hear that Milton's mansion is painted maroon, he will only eat off of maroon dishes, and that he's looking into a line of technology that makes maroon computers." well, maybe that was an exageration.

Sydney: "Maroon's nice. Dad's silks were black, with a giant B in the front. Surprisingly even on the 100 degree days the silks weren't extremely hot like you'd think." I reached into my pocket, pulled out my wallet and showed everyone the picture that had been made of Sam with a blanket of roses and the Bristow jockey silks. OOC: Here's the 'picture'
