Mary Anne: As Arin let out a chuckle, I snapped out of my inter-saddle doze. "Wow guys, I think I drifted off just then! But Piper took care of me!" I said, patting the beautiful Andalusian on the neck. "But I had the stranges dream..." I trailed off, remembering that I had dreamed of trying to win a race in which I had ridden Here Comes Bob (the slowest lesson horse at the stables) against Syd on Samurai and Miley on Stardust, and Theo on a horse that was completely cloaked in shadow. As we entered the homestretch, Sam and Stardust grew wings and flew off into the sky, but Theo kept going! 'We few, we lucky few, we band of brothers!' I whispered in Bob's ear, trying to urge him to go faster with inspiring words from Henry V . And indeed, he did go faster, until we were only one furlong behind Theo and the shadow horse. 'Will you go to the ball with me?!?!?!?!' I had bellowed into the wind, but he crossed the finish line a nose before me and Bob and jumped off shadow horse, and giving a big hug to someone wo was obviously his girlfriend... but who was it? I pulled Bob up and peered down into the girl's face, only to see that it was.... I had woken up. I looked around me, my friends looking at me as if they were expecting me to tell them what my dream had been. "It was strange, that's all!" I said, deiding to keep the fact that I actually dreamt about a member of the rival stables to myself.

Sydney: "Day dreaming about a handsome young man no doubt. And his horse too I bet!" I said with a sly wink.

Alex:
"Rampage is a bay quarter horse stallion. he is really aggressive and almost always hard to handle. but when he is in a happy mood, which is rarely, he is an amazing horse. i think that he used to be the top reiner in the country until he skinned his back legs so bad he lost his skin. ever since then he has been a cranky horse. i think that he wants to go back to being the world champion Reiner of the US." i said to the guys. i laughed at Arin who was impitating a blowfish. Nutmeg's ears pulled back and she lifted her head. she let out a huge neigh that sounded like laughter.

Sydney: "Some race horses that are injured and have to retire are the same way. That's why dad and I created a Race-Horse Rehab. Racers that were injured or just no good on the track, we given a second chance at life. All of them were able to find homes, most in the lives of competitors who kept the horses active, which suited them just fine. Working horses like to work, I bet even old Here comes Bob enjoys being appreciated."

Sydney: "So Rampage skinned his back legs? Yikes! I've seen a few horses skin their knees, it's bad but usually not career ending. Why did he have to give up competition?"

Alex:
"Rampage's back legs were skinned all the way down to the bone. all his skin was gone. he couldnt even walk on his legs. Rampage was then put up into a sling. his back legs were rapped as well. but ever since then he has been upset and aggressive. we dont know why he is even upset. but i think it is because he was at the top of his game and when he skinned his legs he was competing for the 4th time in the championship reining competition." i said. "we bought Rampage from his owner. his owner couldnt see her horse in this much pain. so she had to sell him. when we talked to her about how he skinned his legs he was practicing in the practice arena. when she went for his final slide where, he slides to a stop and then rears up, he got to low and then he slide across the rough sand, skinning his skin off." i said and took a big sigh so i wouldnt cry.

Sydney: "It's never easy to see a horse that you were competing with injured or worse." I couldn't help but think of Ike, and the moment I realized he really was gone as his head laid in my lap. I shook my head to clear the painful memory. I suppose I was blessed because I didn't see Ike suffer, but I never got a chance to really say goodbye either. One day, I vowed to find the villian who had taken Ike from me. One day they'll pay...

Arin: the local mood changed from funny to serious with the mention of poor Rampage's legs. Sydney assumed a vengeant-looking expression, Alex looked tearful, and Mary Anne seemed to be pondering deep thoughts. Maybe she had a nightmare- she seemed to be brooding. Now was not, i decided, an apt time to revive the pufferfish. But the mood needed to be lightened somehow. "Poor Rampage. but i can't wait to see him perform!" i exclaimed enthusiastically. IF Miley was still on speaking terms with me when she discovered just what happened this afternoon. Who knew that stable life could be so stressful? I gave Fly, who was happily munching bunchgrass, a hearty pat and a kiss on the mane. at least horses were always there for you.

Alex:
"yea. he is still aggressive. not many people can get near him. he is actually like one of the horses back at Stone Ridge, War Lord. War Lord is a black appaloosa. he doesnt like people and actually, he wants to be wild. one of our mares is in foal to him, her name is Untamed Mystery. but Rampage is an explosion of a horse. when he is in a good mood he is wonderful." i said and sighed thinking about Untamed Mystery and War Lord.

Arin: i turned my sleep-blurred gaze to the heavens above- it looked like someone had poured a bucket of glitter all over a piece of ebony-colored satin. i had never seen so many stars before! if you looked closely, you could make out any constellation you wanted- for instance, a figure seated upon a celestial horse, leaping out of the milky way. "look up!" i whispered, practically reverent. suddenly, a bright bolt of light split the night sky- a shooting star! it was there and gone in a blink, but it left an impression seared against my euelids. i closed my eyes and made a wish, to let the magic last. "that was amazing! did you make a wish?"

Sydney: "You bet I did! Hey Alex if you'd like, I could work with Rampage on the aggression issue. i've calmed several aggressive colts/stallions before. Maybe I could be of some service to you."

Mary Anne: "WOW! Make a wish!" I exclaimed at the same time as Arin. I shut my eyes and thought hrad. What can I wish for? I have my best friends, two horses, a fun competition coming up, a potential boyfriend, and the adoption paperwork is nearly done. WHat more can I ask for? I mused. I wish that no more horses are ever hurt like Ike and Rampage! I decided with a nod, and though it was a highly unlikely wish, I might as well go for the full nine yards in a moment as special as this! "I'll watch when you work with Rampage, Syd!" I said. "If I'm going to be breaking Butterfly to saddle anytime soon, I had better pick up some tips!"

Alex:
"thanks Syd." i said to her and made my wish. i wish for Sterlings to win the competition and for all the horses to live happy lives as champions, i thought.
