Alisa- "I'm gonna try my new horse out." I told the others. I tacked him up and led him to the arena. It was chilly, so I rubbed my hands together. I got on, and walked him in and closed the gate without a problem. So far, so good. Once I got him into a trot, I felt like he was a pegasus, one, long, slim, muscular leg flew in front of the other as I nudged him into a fast canter. Then it happened. Last time I practiced, (about an hour ago) I left a jump out. I held my breath as I felt his heart pound, his hooves crash down, raising clouds of dust. Suddenly, I too was bursting with adrenaline. Without thinking, as we got closer to the jump, I nudged him into a brisk, gliding gallop. I didn't see the pole that I knocked over earlier, I really didn't. But right as he tensed himself inches from the jump, his left forehoof slid on the pole, making him land hard in his bottom. I was sweating, but he seemed ok. I started to dis mount when he paniced. He lurched forward, grunting. Before I knew it, I was laying on my back, on the hrd ground just outside the arena. I heard footsteps and a whinny, then everything when black.

Katie: "I'd better go see what Alisa wants to use for riding to the ball in- bareback, western, or sidesaddle." i told the other riders. i went to the arena to see how she was doing. as soon as i stepped through the wide double doors, i knew something was wrong. "Alisa!" I shouted, and then stopped cold in my tracks. my newest student was lying prone on the floor! and her horse looked injured, too. "What happened?"

Sydney: I was just about to catch June from the pasture when I saw Katie standing like she'd seen a ghost in the Arena doorway. I jogged over to see if she was ok "Katie what's wrong?" and then I looked into the arena. "Oh no!" I gasped. Alisa was laying on the ground and her horse appeared to be injured. I didn't waste anytime springing into action. I pulled my cell phone from my pocket and dialed 911...

Alisa- A while later, I found myself on a strecher. My head hurt very badly, and my leg felt weird. Its ok I thought. If I'm on a strecher someone's gonna take care of me. Then I Remembered. The Ball! The COmpetition! Oh, No! I couldn't miss those! I looked around quickly. I saw Katie and Sydney watching. I squirmed, but couldn't wave. I hoped I'd get better before the competition....

Katie: Alisa came to soon after Syd and I had wrestled the emergency stretcher down from the hall closet. I had wrapped her head, just in case, and had an icepack at the ready. "A Paramedic's on the way to make sure you don't have a concussion," I told her soothingly. "Rodger's fine, though."

Alisa-
"Good..." I said. My head felt horrible, but I was glad my horse was fine. I heard Rodger's nicker and suddenly, like old weathered paint, the pain slowly seemed to peel off. I smiled a bit, remembering how good it felt to ride Rodger. But, like guilt, everything felt good except this pain in the back of my head. I was trying to be positive, but it was getting hard.

Sydney: "I'm going to put Rodger in a stall if that's ok with you Katie, or would you like me to wait here for the paramedics?"

Katie: "You can take him, Syd, as long as it's okay with alisa." I said, wrapping the bag of ice in a towel and putting it under my student's head. fortunately, just at that moment, a man in a white coat hurried into the barn. Apparently, he hadn't used his sirens on the ambulence, probably so as not to frighten the horses. the situation wasn't greivious enough for that, apparently.

Alisa- "Go 'head and put him in his stall." I said. After they looked at my head and said it wasn't too bad, but I should be more careful when I ride. Of course, I almost talked back, but then they talked to Katie for a while and left. I sat up. "owwww...." I groaned. "Do you think I'll be OK for the ball?" I asked. Thinking of the ball and my new horse eased the pain.

Sydney: I had just returned from putting Rodger away when Alisa asked about the ball. "I certainly hope so!" I replied "But you really should take it easy." Being a jockey & event rider I'd had my share of bumps and bruises. I knew first hand that head injuries were extremely serious...

Dr....um..... Warren!: "Hello there!" i said to the girl on the stretcher and the two other women present. "so you've taken a fall from your horse? Let's see what the damage is." I examined the girl's head and neck, and asked her a few questions. "It looks like it's only a goose egg, but we can run a few tests just to make sure." I examined her eyes. "You pupils are the same size. And you don't seem to be experiencing disorientation, confusion, or post traumatic pain of any sort, besides the aching. Do you want to have a CT scan to make sure? I have a portable unit in the ambulence."

Sydney: The paramedic began checking Alisa over. I'd been fortunate enough that most of my falls weren't serious enough for paramedics. Except for a few and I remember that first time that wired, worrisome feeling that something was terribly wrong with me. I hoped Alisa wasn't having the same feeling I'd had.
