I rubbed a jelly-like currycomb over Fortune's sleek hide. We had gallopped back to Sterling in the dark, and were getting our horses ready for the night. "So, who wants to do what events? And, Katie, what are the rules on how many people can compete?" I asked.

"This is what I need to get back in shape after 2 years! I can't wait to get back into the training schedule" I said finishing with June And putting her away for the night. "I've GOT to go call my dad. See you tomorrow!"

"don't forget to sign up tomorrow! i'll type up a sheet tonight!" i called to Sidney. then, i returned to brushing baroque.
Arin:
"i'm so excited!" i gave blackthorne another drink of water, then unclipped his crossties and led him into his stall. "see you all tomorrow!" i hurried out to the parking lot, where my jeep was parked. i had no idea what competition i wanted to be in.

I smiled as I whispered sweet-nothings to Black Jewel. I was worried. Black Jewel was the fastest horse around, no doubt, not that anyone knew it of course. But she was also wild. I didn't want her to get hurt when I had just met her. She pranced in place, nervously rolling her eyes.
"It's okay Jewel, everything's going to be all right."

"Yeah, I want her to race. She's got speed like a falcon. I'd bet everything I have she can sprint faster than a quarter horse and win the Derby against a field of the top Thoroughbreds," Yuliya said while gazing at her horse fondly.

I came running up to Katie and the other girls with Emily racing behind me.
"Did you guys hear?!" I said nervelessly. I looked at Katie's awestruck face. I grabbed her by the hand and ran to the injured young mustang's stall. The horses where still whinnying and Katie ran from horse to horse, seeing if they were alright. Everyone else did the same.
