OOC: Sorry! I was really busy lately getting ready for Terri and then we got a new computer and it's a lot different but now I've got the old one online again!!
Sidney: Berryhill was a big, expensive stable. Filled with expensive horses. Kinda like Ike! Right now, she saw a georgeous horse hang his head over his stall. He was the most unusual color, you couldn't call it black or brown. Just like... "Monte?" I walked over to his stall to get a better view. "I don't believe it! It is you!!! I know this horse!! This is Ike's brother!! But he's not a racer, what is he doing here?"

Milton: i whirled on the heel of my highly polished oxblood loafer to look at Sidney. "oh, Monte Cristo." i said, keeping my somewhat devious smile to myself. "I purchased him a few months ago. he is, as a matter of fact, a very gifted racer, as well as a good jumper. we were going to try and train him well in either discipline, once he's settled into the stables."

Sidney: I carefully considered Monte's pedigree. It was identical to Ikes so it had been easy to remember. He was also going to be ours when we got Ike, but he was sold before we could buy him and it was too late. "Monte isn't exactly a race horse, but he does have the blood for it. Truth is, I need a good jumper with lots of speed. Would you sell him to me?" I could only hope that Milton would say yes. But I knew, Milton was a business man, he wanted to make a profit off his investment. Only then would he probably consider selling Monte. Maybe we could make a deal...

Milton: "good gracious, no! Monte Cristo is one of my most valuable horses!" i exclaimed. "i was expecting to run him in the Buckminster Stakes this coming April!" i noticed that all the attention had shifted towards me, but i cared not.

Sidney: "Would you make a deal? What if I offered more than just money alone for Monte?"

Mary Anne: OOOH, it sounded pretty intense! Milton and Sidney were going to strike a deal- and this was probably the most exciting day of my life!
Theo: "Mr, Berryhill, we COULD have a competition between the stables- that seems like a fair way to settle this score. Each stable has... talent in all disciplines. We could have a relay race! Or a cross-scountry course! Or, a PAINTBALL FIGHT!" I bellowed, getting hyper at the prospect of some friendly competition.
Whitley: This girl wanted to buy MONTE??? He was, like, the most expensive thing in the stables. And, if we did have a tournament like Theo wanted, I could show the world what an amazing rider I was...

Milton: "Absolutely not! no is my final word!" i exclaimed to Miss Bristow. how exasperating.
Katie: This was too much. Milton had to have Monte for sale... otherwise, why would he be in the sale barn?! maybe he had just purchased him on a whim, and was now just realixing his full potential. i stalked up to him, and motioned for him to follow me into a dark corner of the stable. there, an open door indicated a small broom closet. i tugged him inside, and shut the door. i didn't want my stable members to see me lose it. "What do you think you're doing! Monte has to be for sale."
"Well, he's not. anymore."
"that's so ...so... unfair and... VILE of you!"
"Why, thank you."
we stared daggers at each other in the musty closet for what seemed like forever. neither of us blinked. then, we started talking all at once.
"How about..." "I propose..."
the awkward silence seeped in again. we were both waiting for the other to talk. it reminded one of two owls sitting together. i decided to break the silence.
"sidney was so great! then Cultural Icon died... and she quit! don't you want a hand in bringing back a champion?!"
"only if she's from MY stable."
"fine. if that's what YOU want. She'll never go over to your side. we'll find some way... i have the better stable, you know." this was a point widely debated in the elite equestrian circles of Nevada.
"Oh, i know a way."
the smug smile slipped off my face. Milton looked like a vampire in the gloom, smirking like the cheshire cat.
"And what, pray tell, is it?" he waited, adding to the suspense.
"A competition, my dear miss Sterling. whoever wins, gets Monte Cristo."
"far too paltry a prize. not to offend Monte, but i'm not bringing out the big guns over a single horse."
"well then, things can be arranged. here. the loser will have to publically announce that their rival is the superior stable." ohhh, so he wanted an epic, did he? "fine. and, you have to throw a big ball before the ceremony." "and you have to donate the use of your trails and cross country course." "and you may have the pleasure of donating you racetrack!" "What should be the areas of competition?"
at this point, i thought i heard [glow=red,2,300]"paintball" [/glow]whispered through the door, but held my peace.
"Dressage, Cross Country, A Race, Steeplechase, Endurance, Reining, Barrel Racing, Lyrical Dressage, and Hunting." i said, listing them off on my fingers.
without further ado, Milton stuck out his hand to shake.
"you have yourself a deal." we shook. and walked out of the closet, much to the surprise of the twelve people pressing their ears to the door.

OOC: This is going to be fun! Sidney:
I didn't know Milton, and I normally wan't want to make up my mind about someone without a chance to get to know them. But he, Milton, was a snake! And he knows it too! Ok, I've got to help Katie! Sterling Stables means everything to her, so much is at stake! If he wants a competition, he's going to get one!

OOC: heh, heh. Arin: Katie and Milton came stiding out of the tiny closet. we, of course, had heard every word they had said. Katie was looking resolute and determined, and more than a bit irate. Milton was looking superior. "Sparks are gonna fly." i whispered to Yuliya, Mary Anne, and Sidney. the guys had seemed to have disappeared, and Whitley was pacing back and forth in agitation behind us. she was probably going to break the heel of one of her impractical boots. Trillium and Cyrus and Cali were hovering on the other side of us. Katie: "I'm sure all of you heard that," i said cooly, giving Milton a glare. "we will be holding a competition between the two stables. Now, if you don't mind," here, i adressed Milton, "we had best be off. it's getting dark, and i'm sure our horses would like to be home. good evening." i swept over to the post where Baroque Falshback was tied, flicked away the knot holding his reins, and lept on in one fluid motion. i wished i had had a cape to swoosh up behind me, for dramatic effect. "come along girls."

Yuliya:
I nodded my head in agreement, yet Black Jewel hardly seemed to agree. Standing on my tippy toes, I whispered into her silky ears,
"Jewel, could I please ride you home? You'll have a nice stall to be in, and I'll give you some extra oats." Jewel seemed to understand, so I swung myself up onto the small of her back.

Mary Anne: A competition! How exciting! The "Lyrical Dressage" part sounded especially interesting! I swung up into the saddle with the most persnickety look I could manage at milt, then trotted out into the courtyard.

Katie: all five of us swung up into our saddles, and i led the way in a histrionic charge across the the quad at a stately lope. Owen, Mike, and Theo waved as we passed the track, but i pretended not to notice as we flew by. This was war!

Cali:
I was standing by all of the others by the closet door and took a step back when Katie and Milton came out. I looked down, slightly embarrassed that I was listening in to their conversation. Oh my! A competition! That would be fun, I wondered who would win....
