Mr.Bristow: For me to pack my bags and a horse to travel cross-country it must be the race of the century or some other high to-do event. Unless it involes Sydney. After the terrible accident with Ike, I never thought Sid would touch another horse. Now, she's not only riding, but competing! She called me two days ago and explain the fate of a well known stables was threated and partially because of her. She had found Monte, Ike's full and only brother as his mother had died after foaling him. Sidney and I wanted to buy both Ike and Monte but somehow someone got to him first. When we contacted them, Monte had been sold, sold, and yet sold again. And then he vanished, he was nowhere to be found on the show circuit. I pulled my mind away from its memories to focus once again on the address Sydney had given me. According to the GPS, we were minutes away.
Sydney: After I got back from my ride to the waterfall and I had taken care of June, I walked to the stable entrance to look for my dad. Who should be arriving any moment with my 2nd most favorite horse in the world, Samurai. He was all throughbred, with Three Bars not too far back in his pedigree. Dad and I had worked him since he was born and he became not only a skilled riding horse, but he had never lost a race.
Mr.Bristow: I saw the stables ahead and gently applied the brake, switching the turn signal on -wait, where is the turn signal!?! Oh, there it is, this what I get for renting a horse van but this was the fastest way to get here. As I eased into the drive, I saw Sydney leaning against the door at the entrance. I eased the van into park and climbed out of the van holding my arms out to Sydney as she ran to me.
Sydney: "Dad! I'm so glad you're here!" I said, giving him a hug.
Mr.Bristow: "Me too honey." I paused, "And Sid" I began stepping back so that I could look in her eyes "I'm so proud of you."

Katie: after printing off countless papers for the new members, i decided to see if sidney was back from her ride yet. her new horse, Samurai, would be here any minute.... upon stepping outside, i saw her hugging her dad. after giving them a moment of privacy, i stepped out fo the shadows. "Hi, Mr. Bristow! I'm the manager here at Sterling Stables, Katie Sterling."

Mr.Bristow: "Hi Katie it's very nice to meet you. I've heard wonderful things about you and your fine equestrian center." I extend my hand to shake Katie's.
Sydney: "Dad I'm dying to see Sam! Do you think he'll remember me?"
Mr.Bristow: "How could he forget! Why don't you unload him."
Sydney: "You're going to love him Katie!" I walked to the back of the van, opened the door and greeted Sam the way I always had. "Sammy!" I exclaimed. He let out a whinny that rang from the inside of the van. Holding my ears I laughed "I've missed you too handsome! Come on out and meet my new friend" I said taking his lead and moving him towards the door and he stepped out into the drive. "Katie, meet Sam. Sam, this is Katie."

Katie: i whistled in appreciation. "Wow, what a beauty!" the gorgeous thoroughbred had the perfect conformation for running, and looked the perfect gentleman. then, i remembered my manners, and shook Mr. Bristow's hand. "thank you- i'm glad you like it! i hope that Sam will too!"

OOC: I was getting kinda carried away with my previous post and I didn't wait for you to post that you shook Mr.Bristows hand and I didn't want to play Katie since she's yours Sydney: "Isn't he though! You should see him run! Hey dad, do you suppose he could stretch his legs a bit?" Mr.Bristow: "Nothing more than a breeze should be ok. Where can we run him Katie?"

Katie: "since my very good friend,*sarcasm!* Mr. Berryhill, would be loathe to let us use his racetrack, i suggest taking him for a turn in Westwind Paddock. it's empty now, and i plowed ti last month." i couldn't wait to see what one of my best riders and her favorite horse could do!

Sydney: "I am sooo going to be saddle sore.... But I can't wait to ride Sam! I'll go put him in cross ties, give him a quick grooming and tack him up. Should we wrap his legs Dad?"
Mr.Bristow: "Better safe than sorry, and I'd prefer that we stretch his legs a bit in an arena or something before hitting the trails. May I borrow a horse?"

Katie: i furrowed my brow. "the practice arena's full of jumps and three riders right now, but i suppose we could fit in. and i'll get you a horse right away, Mr. Bristow." i hurried to the stall blocks, and returned with Tinkerbell for me and Legendary Patriot, a percheron/thoroughbred cross, for my guest.

Katie: i smiled at Miley. "so you two have already met, then? good! Sidney's horse for the race, Samurai, has just arrived, and we're going to see how he does. and, now that you're out of the arena, there's room for us to practice!" i gave Tink's saddle a final tug, and scratched his poll. Tink sighed in happiness. "would you like to come with us?"

Sydney: "Sure! Sam's a good old boy."
At that Sam neighed with surprise in his voice, "I'm sorry, I meant good young boy!" Syd replied with a laugh. "I need a few extra minutes to tack him up and wrap his legs then I'll meet you in the arena."
Mr.Bristow: "I'll give you a hand Sid, thank you Katie. He looks like a dream to ride." I said nodding toward Legendary Patriot.
Sydney led Sam inside the barn to the cross ties and I followed, tying my borrowed horse to the rings next to Sam. I went back to the van and grabed my helmet and Sam's tack and leg gear. On the way out, I realized I wasn't wearing my riding clothes so I grabbed a pair of riding pants on the way out. When I got to Sydney, Sam was gleaming from head to tail and nearly drooling over the attention Sid was giving him. "I still say you're spoiling him" I chuckled to Sid. "A little spoiling after all the time I've been away surely isn't all that bad..." "You're right, he's missed you. He didn't like any of the boy excercise jockeys at the farm. And when we tried a new girl on him he nearly tossed her as soon as her foot was in the stirrup. He did tolerate me long enough everyday to keep him fit." "That's right Sammy-boy we'll show 'em won't we?" Sydney smooched in baby talk. Mr.Bristow rolled his eyes, stood up from wrapping Sam's legs and asked Sid about changing into his riding pants. After she pointed out the bathroom Sid tacked Sam up, put on her helmet and led Sam out of the barn towards the arena. She waited just inside for Mr.Bristow and when he arrived, she stepped into the saddle and patted Sam on the shoulder. When she brought her hand back to the reins, she used the slightest touch of her heels to send Sam off in a smooth, gracefull trot. Sid felt every ounce of Sam's muscle beneath her, he listened intently for her voice to tell him when to run. Much like Hidalgo, a secret word had been 'programed' into Sam to tell him when to give it everything he had. Only two people knew this word. Sid and her father and they rarely ever used it with the colt unless they planned to go on a lightning fast trip that would leave them as winded as if they were the ones doing the running. Sydney urged Sam into a canter and they circled the arena even faster. Sam looked back at Sid as if he was asking Can we go now? Not yet, Sid answered in her mind to Sam, she brought him to a trot, then a walk and stopped him in front of Mr.Bristow, Katie and Miley. "Well, what do you think?" she asked patting Sam once again on the shoulder and feeling something that she had not felt since her last ride on Ike, pure connection between horse and rider. And it felt good.

Katie: Samurai and Sidney seemed to flow together as they shifted into a canter, as if they were one being, possibly a centaur. Sam seemed to be having the time of his life; sidney mirrored his expression. when they finished thew first lap, i applauded softy. "bravo! i can't wait to see you two full throttle on the track!"

Sydney: "When that happens, you'll be standing in awe, and I'll be wondering why in the world racing saddles don't have seat belts! I'm ready to hit the trail whenever you are!"
Mr.Bristow: "He looks good Syd, so do you. Let's go then!"
Mr.Bristow mounted Legendary Patriot and Syd turned Sam toward the exit of the arena. How I ever stayed away from this horse all this time I'll never know. She thought to herself. Racing wasn't eventing even though on some occassions in event you felt like you were racing it just wasn't the same. Eventing was her career, racing was her passion.
