Mike: My hands worked quickly to draw a medium dosage to ease the pain. I wasn't going to risk over dosing her. "The vet's already on the way" I said quickly climbing over the fence and rushing towards the mare. I slowed to a brisk walk a few feet away so I wouldn't alarm her. I reached down and injected the banamine. "If we can get her moving, the banamine will get into her blood stream faster. I don't think the sling is the best idea, she needs to move..."

Theo: At the first word 'colic', I had dashed around the barn and leapt onto one of the four wheelers parked there. I roared of down the road, meeting a white pickup tooling along, about halfway to the main road. "STOP!!" I hollered, and Dr. Scott obliged, making me cough with the whirlwind of dust. "Mr. Arrington, what can I do for you?" he shook my hand, but I could tell that he wanted me to get to the point. Sons of wealthy real estate barons didn't get this dirty for no reason... or so he probably thought. "We've got a horse with colic at Berryhill. I didn't wait for specifics, but you'd better drive fast. As I left, I thought I saw her lie down!" I said, jumping back on the 4-wheeler. "And trust me, Milto will NOT enforce the 25-mph law here. You should see him when he's late for a goatee appointment!" Dr. Scott's pickup passed the 4-wheeler quickly, despite the fact that I was flooring... err, handlebaring... it. mission accomplished... for now, I thought. I just hoped Crown Jewel was all right.

Miley:
Justin came up behind me. i was cling onto Crown Jewel's neck hugging her with all my might. i tried to struggle away from him, but he was to strong. i was still crying and i wanted my mare to be ok. i cried some more. i looked over at Jack. Justing had finally let go of me. i gave one more look at Crown Jewel and then sprinted away. i hopped onto the fence and then gave a whistle to Jewel. the mare began to struggle to get up. i whistled again this time to Dream, the stallion looked at me and then cantered toward the fence. i stopped him i shoed him back to Crown Jewel. she needed a friend right now and i wasnt the one to be it. i jumped over the other side of the fence and ran away, with tears in my eyes. as i neared Justin's horses, i stopped infront of Rascal's. i swung the door open and then walked inside. i cleared a spot on the floor and sat down. Rascal had already walked over to me and was nuzzling my face. i smiled, but tears still ran down my face.
Caden:
as Miley ran away, she had given a whistle to Crown Jewel, the mare began to struggle up but she was still have trouble. "ok guys, we have a colicing horse that wants to get up. lets help her by pushing her up from the back." i said and walked to Crown Jewel's back. i tucked my hands underneath her body and began to heave. then i got an idea. "Justin go and get some plow gear."

Mike: I put the cap back over the needle of the syringe and shoved it into my pocket. I moved behind Jewel and began to try to help her onto her feet. "Come one pretty girl, up and at 'em" I encouraged. Inside I was worried, she had to get up or it was over...

Milton: I stood at Jewel's head, one hand looped through the cheekstrap of her halter, the other stroking the length of her perspiring neck. she hadn't seemed to mind the shot, which was both good and bad. "On the count of three, men!" I called, relieved to see a dust cloud signaling Dr. Scott's arrival coming down the road. "One... Two...."
Owen: I knelt by Crown Jewel's side, ready to help push her up. While the sling would be handy if she wouldn't arise of her own volition, it would eat up our preciously spare time to put it up.

Caden:
i waited for three. i steadied myself to get the beautiful sorrel mare back onto her feet. i heard boots crunch and Jut was back with the gear. "ok, put it on Dragonfly. then once he is hooked up-hmph-i need you to throw a rope over the rails up in the ceilings. and then go and grab another pair of the gear and we will hook it up to Jewel. if she doesnt get up." i said heaving.

OOC: PS, do you want the manly men of berryhill to lift her up, or do you want Dragonfly to? just so we can get the show on the road.

OOC: i imagined her at the side of the corral, near the overhanging beams of a barn. Milton: "Three!" we all lifted Crown Jewel, easing her stradily up. in a few seconds, she was scrambling to her feet by herself. though still in pain, it seemed, she was definatley not a goner. Dr. Scott climbed over the fence and started to examine the mare. "It seems like she has what we vets call 'sand impaction,' or some other sort of simple blockage. I presume that it's sand because of the pasture she was kept in up until, what, a few days ago? Just yesterday, the BLM had me go and check it out to see what sort of conditions the horses were in based on care. for the hearing and all that. Anyway, nothing was really wrong besides the size of the corral that customers could view the horses from, and the fact that the pasture the horses were kept in to graze was pretty arid. it looked overgrazed. The fact that your mare joined the remuda later than some probably added to her ingestion of that sand, since my guess is that she was kept in there more than the others, who hadn't yet outgrown the corral. At any rate, I'll be checking the rest of your wild ones in due course, but, for now, we can probably treat her with a synbiotic, and she'll be fine soon."

OOC: Oh, ok, gotcha! Mike: I was relieved when we were able to get Crown Jewel standing again. Dr. Scott made his evaluation and pointed out the possible risk of the mustangs that had been/were in the process of being adopted. That meant Milton's mustang too...

Theo: Did Dr. Scott mean that all of our mustangs were at risk from sand impatation? That meant my filly! "Dr. Scott, is there aything we can do to check for possible problems?" I asked, when all I really wanted to do was go to the red dun's stall and make sure she was ok.

Alex:
i blasted into the up to the paddock on my new red dun mustang mare, Diamond Flame. i looked over the paddock, Miley was gone, the guys were getting Jewel up onto her feet, and Dr. Scott was talking about Crown Jewel having sand impaction. that was good, she didnt have colic. but where was Miley she would want to know that her mare was ok. but then i caught onto what Dr. Scott said. the mustangs? my mare was a mustang and she probably came from the same herd as Crown Jewel was in. i dismounted off the mare. i quickly took off the bareback pad and laid it on the fence rail. i walked Flame into the paddock and took her over to Dr. Scott. "could you check Diamond Flame too, she was in the same herd as Jewel."

Mike: "Could that be spread to other horses that have been in contact with Jewel?" I asked. Mentally, I was counting the number of horses we'd brought in and thinking about rather or not they'd come in contact with any of Berryhills other horses. Or Sterlings....
