Mike: Taz caught up with the leaders in no time. Even Milton's mustang had closed the gap and we raced 4 abreast, Taz, Milton's Mustang, Ballerina & Quest, towards the finish pole.

Justin:
the others had caught up to Quest. Milton's Mustang was really fast and was an excellent runner. the other horses and Quest ran breast to breast. of course Quest was the smallest horse. his strides lengthened and he pulled ahead a little bit. the other horses noses were right up to the middle of his face. Quest leaned low but Milton's Mustang had me. Quest wasnt going to be able to beat the larger mustang stallion. Milton's Mustang was soon right up to Quest's nose. and then he had passed. when we passed the line Milton's Mustang had won by a nose.

Mike: It was hard to tell who had beat who from my view point on Taz's back. Taz and Milton's Mustang were equals. I stood in my stirrups, reigning Taz in. He'd hardly broken a sweat, which was good since I'd planned to save him for the big race. Taz must have understood that, "Good boy Taz"I praised patting him on the shoulder.

Owen: Ballerina had almost held even with a running thoroughbred, a track-bred quarter horse, and a crazily entergetic mustang stallion! "Float like a butterfly, sting like bee!" i whispered to her. my willowy mare tossed up her head, exhilarated from her run. we trotted around the track to cool off before heading back to the barn. "great job, guys! we have some of the fastest horses around here!"
Milton: "I have an announcement to make!" I proclaimed as we reined our horses in together. I could still hardly believe that Smoke had, if only by a nose, beaten some of my fastest boarders. i suppose that the fire of the wide open range was still within him. "I have officially dubbed this stallion Smoke and Mirrors." I said, giving him a hearty pat on the neck.

Justin:
"that is a great name for him Mr. Berryhill." i said to the owner. i trotted Quest around the track with Lace trotting besides us.

Mike: I stood in my sturrips and pulled Taz up. His pulse was up, but he wasn't breathing too extremely hard. Good. I thought, He'll need all the energy he can get for the big race. I brought him around to Milton and the others, "Cool name Mr. Berryhill." I said as I settled back into the saddle.

Milton: "Thank you." I nodded, pleased with the morning's work. that was when my maroon phone began to tweedle- Damien Rice's "Canonball" as it happened- and i flipped it open. Four missed ccalls, all from Katie! i quickly redialed. she picked up on the first ring. "What on earth were you doing? Picky's about to burst an artery wityh Miley being absent! send her over here ASAP, please!" "Yes, of course. Right away." i sounded like the hired help!

Mike: Wow, I think Katie just put Milton down a notch or two on the totem poll I thought to myself. I stifled a chuckle and continued to cool Taz out.

Owen: i snikered up my sleeve. Milton must really like Katie if he was acting all subservient to her! "Miley, you'd better go back to Sterling before Ms. Pickman implodes," i suggested with a chuckle. "After all, we need her to come and help us, too!" that, i dreaded.

Mike: I circled Taz back around to Owen, "What do you suppose she'll have us do?" I asked.

Owen: "We will Daaahhhnnnnssssse!" i sang, striking a dramatic pose from my saddle. "i heard a rumor that it has something to do with dressage moves worthy of the haute ecole in Austria. I think Theo would be the only one with half enough experience for that!"
Milton: "Now, i'm sure Ms. Pickman has designed a very fitting entrance for this ball," i said, trying to sound official while cringing at the mental image of myself being flung skyward whilst Smoke headed for the hills, still in full tack. "Has anybody seen Miley recently? she and Alex really do need to go to Sterling to learn their half."

Mike: "Haven't seen 'em. Oh & Mr. Berryhill I was thinking about who I should ride and I remember Callahan, the thoroughbred I'm retraining. He enjoys a good break in his routine & this would certainly be it." We continued to cool out our horses, I moved in perfect rhythm to Taz. Even though he was snorting & angry because I wouldn't let him go.

Miley:
as i walked towards the forest with Jack, Mr. Berryhill said that Katie wanted me back at Sterlings. "ok!" i yelled back. "Jack can you take Crown Jewel back to stables and take care of her, i have to go." i said and hoped on Dream. the stallion snorted and i kicked my heels to his side. the paint blasted off towards the forest. we bounded over trees and down the trails. then we reached the end of the forest and Sterlings came into view. i stopped Dream and he paced then i nudged him off into a lope towards the barn entrance.

Jack: I nodded, smiling. "Sure, just teach me what you learned before I got there." I called out and rubbed Jewel's forehead. "I sure do love your owner, girl. Otherwise I would not be so easily persuded to take of stuff for her." I whispered to her than moved her shoulders, getting to get on her back I stopped and looked at her. All I saw was trust. I smiled at her patting her neck. "Okay, Beautiful. Let's go back to the stables." I said softly to her and pulled myself unto her back, gently nudging her forward and cantered toward the stables.

Mike: We continued to cool our horses out, I set Taz at a trot for a bit and then back to a walk. Our race today hadn't taken any more out of him than his regular workout. I knew we needed to be in tip-top shape for the race, and we were.
